We mentioned it in our holiday post, but the fitness-minded will find a good reason to stay up through the New Year, enjoying a 5.5K run through the illuminated Tanglewood Park. Not saying you’ll see any of us there, but we hear it’s a treat!

Running of the Lights

Midnight in Tanglewood Park, Clemmons If you’re really feeling adventurous (and don’t need much sleep!), there’s the Tanglewood Park Running of the Lights 5.5K, which will be run at MIDNIGHT on January 1, 2015. Proceeds from the event benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.


For the cool and collected who’d rather stay warm, there are a variety of classy evenings-out. We love the idea of O.Henry Hotel’s Greensboro Symphony New Year’s Eve package, which includes dinner at the Green Valley Grill, chauffeured transportation to the Symphony’s “Leading Men of Broadway” concert, and sparkling wine in your room afterward, as well as a late checkout on January 1. Sounds sophisticated and decadent, no? Other events for theater and symphony-goers and other culturally minded folks abound – here are just a few we’ve found…

Winston-Salem Symphony’s Plugged-In Pops: Brubeck Jazz!

8:00 PM Reynolds Auditorium, Winston-Salem The Brubeck Brothers Quartet will perform the unforgettable music of their father, jazz legend Dave Brubeck. Robert Moody conducts. Party favors and a balloon drop will round out the evening’s celebration.

Greensboro Symphony Pops: Leading Men of Broadway

8:00 PM Westover Church, Greensboro Three of today’s most talented leading men from Broadway, along with one leading lady, join the GSO for “The Great White Way’s” greatest moments, including music by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Stephen Sondheim, and Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Denim & Diamonds New Year’s Eve Party

7:00 PM, Centennial Station Arts Center, High Point Presented by the High Point Arts Council, this party will feature Gary Woodard, The One Man Band, dinner and dancing, and a cash bar.

The Centennial NYE House Party with Channing and Quinn

7:00 PM doors open; Channing and Quinn at 11:00 PM, The Turntable, Jamestown The Turntable will put on its “Biggest Event of the Century,” honoring 100 years since the Frazier House was constructed. The evening will start with an Open Mic for all and a 11 p.m. show by yearly artist in residence, Channing and Quinn.

Millennium Center 20th Annual New Year’s Eve Party

9:00 PM, Winston-Salem Guests enjoy special performances and guest DJs all night long, and tickets include a glass of champagne and a late-night breakfast.

Barn Dinner Theater New Year’s Eve

6 PM, Greensboro Enjoy a delicious buffet, then laugh through a special one-night-only Comedy Show written by the Theater’s own Matthew Bradshaw. After the show, there will be dancing with live music from the band Cufflinx, a Champagne Toast at midnight, and a piping-hot breakfast buffet.

Proximity to Midnight Package

Proximity Hotel and Print Works Bistro, Greensboro Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Greensboro’s Proximity Hotel and Print Works Bistro. Start the celebration with a bottle of sparkling wine in your room, then take advantage of priority dinner reservations, then stay for the New Year’s Eve party with DJ Jessica Mashburn. Late checkout of 2 PM on Jan. 1.


And for families with younger children or folks who just adore cosmic bowling, there are definitely some family-friendly options that are earlier in the evening, smoke-free, or just…did we mention bowling?

Noon Year’s Eve at the Winston-Salem Children’s Museum

10:00 AM, Winston-Salem Kids can create their own sound shaker in the Art Studio; gather together for fun songs, silly activities, and a storytime; and end with a countdown to the “noon year”!

Noon Year’s Eve at the Greensboro Children’s Museum

10:00 AM, downtown Greensboro Kids will love counting down to the “noon year” at the Greensboro Children’s Museum, which has planned special activities for the day, and enjoy all the fun the museum has to offer.
